Rainbows. Dot stickers. Oooh baby that’s a tough call for which my daughter is MORE obsessed with. That girl (3) LOVES them both so much – it was a no-brainer: I had to make her a rainbow dot sticker line-up activity.

We are all about the dot stickers.

Look, when you find something that works you RUN with it and we have been RUNNING with dot stickers for two years now. So many dot sticker activities because these guys really hold toddler and preschool attention spans.

I saw this rainbow line-up activity on Days with Grey, and a light bulb went off: I have to do it with dot stickers.

I was basically forced to do it. It was a NEED not a WANT.

Trust me – the set up took 5 minutes. Maybe less.

The thing with GREAT kids activities is they do NOT need to be hard. Or complicated. Or full of supplies.

You should be able to make something amazing in less than 5 minutes that will keep your toddler or preschooler busy for much, much longer.

Here’s what you need for Rainbow Dot Sticker Line-Up

Materials:

• White paper – I use butcher paper and LOVE it
• Markers
• Painter’s Tape (my favorite to use on walls)
• DOT STICKERS

I cut off a large chunk of butcher paper and then, using skills honed in 5th grade, I made the best rainbow I could. Well, a rainbow using the four colors of dot stickers, but you get me.

I taped this to the wall because I love getting my kids working on vertical surfaces. It is so unbelievably important.

Don’t forget the dot sticker trick!

Before handing over the sheets to your kiddo, make sure you remove the inner white part of the sticker sheet.

Makes stickers so much easier to peel off and you aren’t stuck being on Sticker Support Services for the whole activity.

What’s she learning here?

There’s so much benefit to a simple activity like this:

• Fine motor skills
• Hand-eye coordination
• Sorting / matching
• Arm strength
• Following directions
• Focus / concentration
• Independent work

But the biggest benefit: she’s playing and having fun. She’s having the best time making her rainbow and loving it. She’s chatting up a storm and telling me all sorts of stories about these stickers.

It may not look like much, but a little activity like this goes a LONG way.

How long did she play?

She worked for about 15 minutes on this, left for some other fun, and came back to it later in the day. I never take activities down right away.

Kids need brain breaks. They need space to leave and come back. All told – this activity took her nearly an hour to complete – spread out over an entire day. That’s a lot of work for a 3-year-old and she loved it.
