Have some silly fun with Hose Targets.
Is anything more terrifying than a toddler with a hose? Let’s give that hose a purpose with Hose Targets – a fantastic activity that toddlers will love this summer!
This activity is one of our favorites but is obviously a no-go if your city is in a drought. Try a different water activity like pouring station with your toddler instead.
Materials:
(this list contains affiliate links)
- Light weight objects (we used a sand box toy, squeeze bottle, cone, pool noodle)
- Small table (we used our sand table)
- Hose with spray nozzle
The slight trick with this activity is to grab “targets” that are light enough to be knocked off by the hose. Sounds easy enough but trust me, sometimes things you expect to fall won’t move an inch.
Get ready to stand back and watch your toddler have the time of their life! My son thinks this activity is a laugh out loud riot. We started playing this last summer when he was 25 months old. Now, at just over 3, he’s an old pro at playing hose targets.
One of my favorite parts of hose targets is that he can set this game up himself. After he knocks down the targets, he runs to set them back up without needing any assistance from me.
The skill to hose targets
Surprisingly enough, there is some skill involved in playing this game and it may take your toddler a second or two to get used to the power of the hose, the length of the spray, and how to aim at the targets.
It is all fun and games but there are plenty of skills involved here:
- Grip strength
- Hand eye coordination
- Understanding cause and effect
It is so much fun to play hose targets with my son (also a little scary letting a toddler control the water source!). We love playing this simple activity together and think it’s the perfect way to spend a hot summer afternoon.
