Have some sticky fun with Jell-O Potato Heads
I know I say this a lot, but this was the.most.fun activity. I created a hilarious sensory activity that my toddlers went nuts for. And so did I! Jell-O Potato Heads was just as much fun to watch as it was for my kids to play.
Sensory activities are amazing for toddlers. It gives them a chance to learn and explore in a fun, engaging way. Toddlers learn so much playing!
Setting up Jell-O Potato Heads was so easy!
Materials:
(this list contains affiliate links)
- Jell-O (also called jelly outside the US)
- Mr. Potato Heads
- Plastic container
- Shower curtain liner (I use this as a makeshift toddler tarp)
I used two boxes of Jell-O for this activity and made them according to the package directions BUT instead of putting it in a regular pan, I poured it into a storage container. I liked the idea of having high sides and plastic as the container. I also dropped in tons and tons of Mr. Potato Head “body parts”. It looked hysterical. I left it in my fridge overnight for fun the next morning.
The kids went nuts for this activity!
It has such an appealing look to it with the faceless Potato Heads lined up and their missing parts buried in Jell-O. I couldn’t help but laugh myself as they began tearing into this sensory bin.
Even my anti-mess 3 year old was won over by this activity. How could you not be? He immediately began hunting for body parts to attach to his Potato Head. I was stunned by how messy he let himself get – but he was on a Potato Head rescue mission!
For my 18 month old, this activity was perfect for her. It’s taste safe and she’s fascinated by Potato Heads. With her, what I loved was the body part identification. I would ask her to find eyes and she’d hunt, hunt, hunt to find them. It was perfect for teaching her the names of each piece.
Of course, tons and tons of Jell-O was eaten during this activity. The kids licked the pieces clean! And look how happy they are doing it? You can’t fake that kind of fun. They played for well over half and hour in this bin – that’s a win to me!
My favorite part was the amount of Jell-O they put INSIDE the Potato Heads. They scooped and filled those back sides full of cherry Jell-O.
No worries here – all the Potato Heads came sparkling clean in the dishwasher. I used my colander to hold the small pieces in the dishwasher and everything is back in the toy bins like this never even happened.
For the kids, I carried them each to the bath tub for a good scrubbing. They came totally clean too! The shower curtain liner that I use as the toddler tarp went right into the laundry machine. In about 5 minutes, there was no evidence that this had even happened except for the happy memories.
Jell-O Potato Heads was a smashing success! We loved this sticky fun sensory activity so much. It was the best way to spend the morning with my kids.
