Inside: Nothing is worse than being stuck with kids at the doctor’s. You need to make them a Doctor Office Road.
The Doctor Office Road will change your visits.
Is there actually anything worse than waiting for the doctor? It is the longest minute…or many minutes… in parenting.
My kid are fairly good kids who do a pretty good job in their day to day life. Take them to the doctor’s office and make them wait in that tiny, windowless room?
I understand 100% how Lord of the Flies might have happen.
Time stops and the kids go crazy.
I couldn’t take it any longer, and no matter what I tried…. it wasn’t helping my kids.
And I didn’t want to resort to my cell phone (plus I only have 1 cellphone, but I have 3 kids. The math doesn’t work.).
I decided my only option to fix the doctor’s office dilemma was to start doing Busy Toddler Activities in the room.

Make a doctor office road, duh!
I realized what my kids needed was a great kids activity in the room.
Activities are my favorite tools to use to help reset kids and keep them entertained, and boy did we ever need some help trapped in that doctor’s office.
One of my best tips with parenting is to stay ahead of the curve ball and be proactive: this is how I stay ahead of the meltdowns and the craziness and the wild kid behaviors.

Now, I will always bring an activity with me.
I grabbed 1 marker and about 6 cars as we ran out the door – head held high as I aimed to stay proactive in the doctor’s office.
I checked with the nurse first and she assured me it was OK to draw on the paper bed.
Then I quickly made a road for my kids to drive their cars on (I love making roads for kids as activities).
It worked like A CHARM!
This may have been my finest parenting hour.
By the time the doctor strolled in 15 minutes later, my kids were still playing with their cars, peace and harmony reigned, and I think you could actually hear angels singing.
The doctor took one look at the activity and said, “WOW! You should write a book or something!” Spoiler alert: I’ve written two ebooks and have a third available on Amazon.
This Doctor’s Office Road activity is perfection.
It’s so easy to set up.
It’s clean and won’t leave a mess.
Kids of all ages love this – from a 15 month old to a kindergartener and beyond….
It doesn’t need much: A marker and some cars. The diapers I brought took up more room than this did.
It made me look REALLY good: Let’s be honest.
This made me look like Wonder Mom and who doesn’t need to feel like that every now and then? The kids win. I win. We all win.
So, how do you entertain kids while waiting for the doctor? It’s as simple as a marker and pack of stickers. Who knows – you might even get to have an actual conversation with the doctor instead of just wrangling children and putting out tiny fires left and right.
