Every now and then, I’m super down to jump on a good bandwagon. I have a pretty decent bandwagon resume: flare jeans in middle school, belly piercing in college, and I’m still on the leggings bandwagon. You’ll never get me off that one.
Even kid’s activities have bandwagons and I’m happy to be on the cloud dough one with this cloud dough hide and seek activity.

Ok so maybe that’s wishful thinking on my part but hey! A blogger can dream you know…
It was a ho-hum afternoon around here, I had a toddler who had woken up from her nap early, and a mom who wasn’t quite ready to answer 47 “why” questions every hour (spoiler alert: I’m that mom).
I grabbed out the two ingredients for cloud dough.
I bet you’ve got them on hand too.
It’s just 8 cups of flour and 1 cup of oil. Sometimes I make a half batch, but today, I made the whole 9 yards for this short napped toddler.
Here’s a quick tip when making cloud dough: mix it with a spoon THEN mix it by hand. Enjoy a little mom sensory time as you get it all mixed together. If you’re feeling more bold, step your cloud dough up a notch with this secret ingredient cloud dough recipe!
I turned this cloud dough into a sensory activity!
I grabbed out my trusty 28 qt under the bed tub and laid the magnets in the bottom.
Then I spooned cloud dough over the top and pressed it down so they were hidden. Hello, cloud dough hide and seek!
My 25 month old thought this was a riot! She loved trying to find the magnets and guessing which vehicle she was going to find next.
But that’s not the only reason I added magnets to the cloud dough.
Sometimes, my kids are a little anti-messy so having a “gimmick” can be a great way to get them started with a sensory bin.
And I was right – my daughter wasn’t too sure at first but the curiosity to find each hidden magnet got her to get those little hands dirty!
Once she finished finding the magnets, she started playing with cups and bowls in the sensory bin. It was sort of a 2 for 1 activity and I loved it!
If you’re wondering about the mess or how in the world I kept this reasonably tidy, check out all my tips for introducing sensory bins to toddlers.
Cloud dough is a great activities bandwagon to jump on. If you haven’t tried it yet – let today be that day with cloud dough hide and seek! It’s so easy to make (and you can save it for later!) and a much safer bandwagon bet, than say, that belly ring I got…
