Nothing like the sweet success of really entertaining a baby… am I right? There are some times in the day when you just need a minute to fold the laundry and busy boxes to the rescue, my friend.
Kate (8 months old) is one seriously busy baby so to keep our beloved second born entertained, we set up busy boxes all over our house once she was able to sit up on her own. We have four dedicated busy boxes for Kate and I am absolutely kicking myself that I didn’t have this in place for Sam. He can add that to his “things my mom didn’t do with me” therapy list.
Basically, what we have here are four Kate approved junk boxes. Think Baby’s First Hoarders Collection / Junk Drawer – all full of random toys and household items that I was too lazy to put away. We have two downstairs, one in our room, and one in the master bath. And life is so much easier because of them.
I kid you not, she will sit with these boxes for 20 minutes and pull out her random junk completely fixated on it: comb blocks, teething rings, ribbon, camera chargers, hair dryer attachments….RANDOM. The one in the bathroom is my favorite only because I’m so proud of the genius behind it: everything in that box can go into the shower so in the event of a Stage 5 Clinger day, Kate can even busy box in the shower with me.
The busy boxes answer all the questions of what to do with Kate. Need to cook dinner: busy box. Need to dress Sam: busy box. Need to stay in bed and supervise/parent her from under the covers for another 5 minutes (say it with me): busy box.
