Need a quick baby activity? Try a “dry bath”.
Call me a selfish Mom but sometimes I like to do some pretty wild and crazy things. Like blow my hair dry. Or do my make-up. Or (gasp) clean the toilets.
Problem is, I have a semi-mobile baby who wants nothing to do with hanging out and letting Mom put in some dry shampoo.
A little trick to help a mom out…
Then I remembered a trick another Mom told me about years ago and it’s changed everything about getting ready.
Say Hello to a Dry Bath.
One of the easiest, fastest, and “why didn’t I think of that?” baby activities out there.
When I need to do something nuts like get ready in the morning, I plop my baby into the bath tub with a few of his nearest and dearest toy friends.
Now he’s contained, his friends are at arm’s reach, and I’m within eye sight – which I have to be. Always. For both supervision and separation anxiety reasons.
Yes, it’s kind of a porcelain cage.
Ok ok, so this is kind of like a porcelain baby cage – well you know what? I’m fine with it. He loves it, I love it, and all is right in Momland.
Here’s what you do need to know about a dry bath
Even in a dry bath, you have to supervise closely just in case today is the day they learn to turn the faucet on or finally figure out how to escape the tub.
This activity does, sadly, have a limited shelf life in between the stages of “baby can sit up and play with toys” to “baby can turn on the water”.
But even still, in that limited window where babies are just barely mobile – this activity comes in handy every single time.
I’m not lying when I say I’ve been “sitting” on this activity for years. A seasoned Mom friend of mine told me about doing this with her son – long before I was even pregnant with my first.
But some ideas are just too good and they stick with you always.
Dry bath is a favorite!
At least while he’s still young enough to play, Dry Bath is an almost once a day activity for my baby. It’s quick, easy, and effective – my blow dryer loves it! The perfect quick baby activity for a busy mom trying to get ready in peace.
