Get ready for Post-It Names: an easy learning activity.
What is it about toddlers and Post-It notes? My set are basically under lock and key in my house, guarded with far more security than any of my actual valuables. My kids can dismantle an entire pack in minutes – it’s impressive. So I made Post-It Names as a way to let them do what they want: play with Post-Its.

How learning a name can unlock the ABCs
The first word most children learn to read is their name. It’s fabulous. It’s important. And they see it everywhere.
Which is why the letters that make up their name are often the first letters a child learns to identify.
It also makes name recognition activities (doesn’t that sound fancy?) the perfect intro to the alphabet type activities.
Because alphabet knowledge must be built hands on!
We have no time for flash cards. Flash cards are boring, they’re plain, they are unremarkable.
A chance to run around the house with Post-It notes – now that’s a way to learn the ABCs.
So here’s how I set this up:

I knew I wanted this activity to be big, so I ran for my beloved butcher paper. One of my favorite activity supplies! Go big or go home, right?!
I wrote my three year old’s name on the paper – making sure to do her full name, all 7 letters.
One room away from this set up is our kitchen table. I wrote her name 9 times – one letter per Post-It and mixed them all up. 63 Post-It letters needing to find their way home.
Post-It Names gets them moving!
My daughter was sprinting back and forth – grabbing a Post-It and sticking it to the matching letter in her name.
She did come up with a pretty genius toddler hack and made sure to grab 2-3 Post-Its each time.
By the end of the activity, she was worn out, had spent some quality time with six letters from the alphabet, and had a better understanding of how to spell her full name.
Not too bad for a little butcher paper and some Post-It notes!
But that’s the thing about Post-It notes – kids can’t get enough of them. They’re the perfect activity supply! Post-It names was a riot and the best way to work on the alphabet.
