Messy Boats: Sticky, Yummy Toddler Play

Create some sticky memories with Messy Boats

Messy activities are some of my most favorite toddler activities. It’s a chance to let kids really explore the world around them and learn through their senses. I came up with Messy Boats as the perfect sensory play activity for my two toddlers.

Messy play can be totally doable and easy – it doesn’t have to be scary! You just have to be prepared and be ready for everything those messy toddlers can (literally) throw at you. I’ll show you how I kept this activity afloat and kept things under control.

Setting up Messy Boats was so easy!

Materials:

• Berry blue gelatin (I used four boxes)
• Little boats
• Storage tub(s)
• Bounty Advanced paper towels
• Dawn Platinum Advanced Power

The set up for Messy Boats was a snap: I made four boxes of berry blue gelatin in my storage tub. Then, I scattered little boats throughout and left it to set overnight.

The next day was messy play time, but not so fast. It’s super-duper important to be prepared when you set out to do a messy activity with kids. Think of it this way: when the (messy) ship starts to sink, how are you getting out?

My plan was brilliantly simple to keep things in check. I headed to Costco and got all the “how will we clean this up?” supplies for the project (aka Bounty Advanced and Dawn Platinum Advanced Power).

I kept a roll of the Bounty Advanced paper towels with me at all times. It’s Bounty’s most absorbent paper towel (when compared to National Bounty Select-A-Size Towels) so I knew it would stand up to my tough toddler crowd (and it totally did, plus it’s so soft!).

Then, I filled up a tub with Dawn Platinum for getting those boats clean. Once the kids were done with a boat, I had them drop it into the Dawn tub to soak the boats clean (spoiler alert: the boats were clean in seconds – didn’t even have to leave them overnight).

Have some sticky fun with Messy Boats

This messy play activity was a hoot for my kids. They had so much fun playing in this sticky tub: pulling boats out, smooshing hands in, and exploring with all their senses. I love giving them opportunities like this.

Opportunities to be a little kid – to get messy, to learn through play, and to have wild amounts of fun.

I also had fun watching them, knowing it was all going to come clean, because the little details in these Procter and Gamble Household Needs products make all the difference in keeping me sane during and after activities like this. The peace of mind knowing it will all be easily and quickly cleaned up is a wonderful thing.

We had a delicious, sticky time playing with our Messy Boats activity. It was the perfect outdoor messy activity and it really did clean up in a snap. Messy Boats could become a new summer staple for us!
