The answer is always dot stickers.

Let’s take a few feet of butcher paper and some dot stickers, turn it into a week-long activity. Yes, you read that right: a week long. Because that’s how awesome ABC sticker match ended up being.

We needed a whole week to play it.

Are you down with dot stickers?

My commitment to dot stickers, my love of dot stickers – it has been well-documented. Those little garage sale labels are something activity dreams are made of.

Or maybe just Mom dreams.

The thing is – stickers can be hard for kids. Stickers rip or break. They don’t come off the sheet right. Stickers need A LOT of parent help.

But not dot stickers.

Dot stickers are stickers done right.

You just need this little sticker trick…

To make dot stickers oh-so-easy to use, just peel off that middle white section. Yep – just peel away the white part and suddenly dot stickers become easy enough for an 18-month-old.

Here’s the set up – it doesn’t take long

Materials:

• Dot stickers – these are the ones I get on Amazon. One pack lasts me about six months.
• Butcher paper
• Sharpies
• Painter’s tape

I rolled out the butcher paper and taped it to the wall. Across the paper, I wrote the alphabet in mixed up order.

I also wrote the letters on a sheet of dot stickers.

Time for some matching

I handed the sticker sheet over to my daughter (3) and she went to town.

She moved up and down the paper, quietly matching her letters.

For this first round- she was matching uppercase letters to uppercase letters. In later rounds (remember, this activity went on a week!), I had her matching uppercase and lowercase letters.

She finished – and immediately wanted to play again

Just as she matched up the last letter, she wanted to play this again. So I happily grabbed a second dot sticker sheet, and wrote a new set of letters on the same butcher paper.

It was a little crowded but she still loved it.

So I left it up ALL WEEK.

And each day – I kid you not – she’d find me at some point and ask for more stickers and more letters. I’d squeeze letters where I could and she’d stand quietly working.

Not bad for some paper and some stickers – a play-based learning activity that lasts a week.

Kids love repetition and she loved mastering this!

ABC Sticker Match really was all I thought it could be…and more actually. But that’s the thing about dot stickers. They just never get old.
