ABC Paint Match blends literacy and art… it’s perfection.
I love a good mash-up. Mixing literacy and art for this kids activity was the perfect mix. It’s ABC Paint Match and it has a great TWIST to it.

Why mix art and literacy?
When we are doing activities with kids, the best bang for our “learning buck” is to mix as many subjects and as much knowledge together as possible.
That’s the amazing part of play-based learning. We can incorporate so much learning together into one single activity.
This is the difference between a hands-on activity vs a worksheet. Worksheets are one dimensional and focus on one single subject.
An activity has the ability to pull from so many different areas.
This is how we teach the whole child.

Here’s the 411 on this ABC Paint Match activity:
I grabbed my kraft paper roll and wrote the alphabet in bubble letters.
My first thought was just to have my son (3) paint the alphabet but then I decided to add a fun twist!
WHAT WAS THE TWIST?!
I took out our alphabet magnets and put them in a bowl. I told my son to pull out one letter at a time and paint that letter.
This added an amazing element: he needed to match the letters in two different forms (magnets and my handwriting).
This just went from an art activity to an art + literacy activity.
