We made an Oobleck Baking Station and it was AWESOME.
No but seriously. Making an oobleck baking station might just be the best way we’ve ever played with oobleck… and that’s saying a lot from us.
Have you played with Oobleck before? Get ready for some fun.

Oobleck is the best. Always and forever.
Dear sweet oobleck,
You are amazing in my life and I love thee.
Mom of 3
This is my open love letter to oobleck because oobleck is the greatest.
WHAT IS OOBLECK?
Oobleck is a NON-NEWTONIAN substance that has properties of both a solid and a liquid.
Try saying that 10 times fast.
Basically, oobleck feels really cool. It can be broken like a solid but also oozes like a liquid.
It’s just cornstarch and water (I added the food dye for a little fun).
Here’s how you make oobleck:
You make oobleck by mixing TWO PARTS CORNSTARCH to ONE PART WATER.
For this GIANT bin of oobleck and my 3 kids – I did 4 cups of cornstarch and 2 cups of water.
I dyed the water with food coloring for fun.
And it definitely dyed their hands a little. But by bath time, they were clean again because food dye is NOT PERMANENT. It’s water based and easy to wipe off (even off clothing – you just dilute it).
Mix the cornstarch and water with a wooden spoon and trust me: you’ll know when you have oobleck.
It’s like the way you know about a good melon.
We turned it into an oobeck baking station…
And it was AMAZING.
I just tossed in a bunch of cooking utensils and let me kids go to work.
They’re 6, 4, 2 and they went DEEP into imaginary play with this activity.
That’s always the mark of a truly good activity – when the child(ren) can modify and adapt and extend the activity beyond what we adults might see.
Is oobleck taste safe?
Very much so.
Is it taste delicious? Not so much.
My toddler needed to explore it with his mouth. This is normal.
I REPEAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THEM TO EXPLORE WITH THEIR MOUTHS.
It’s also why I make sure to use TASTE SAFE ITEMS.
I corrected him “EWWW….YUCKY…” but then I moved on. He’ll figure out it’s gross.
And guess what, he did.

I can’t wait for you to try this activity!
It was such a hit for my kids and bought me so many hot coffee minutes to just sit.
