This activity ended up making the.cutest.print at the end so stay tuned for that picture – you’re gonna love it (and also, hopefully I’m not overselling this…).
We have about a gazillion plastic spiders lying around the house right now begging to be played with. And, funny enough, I have a toddler lying around the house begging to paint. Merge these ideas together and hello, spider paint.
It’s a pretty random project but we had fun doing it and it LITERALLY got us to nap time (as in this was post lunch during that last push that sometimes feels like pulling teeth to get through).
Supplies:

- Paint (this is our personal favorite)
- Plastic spiders
- Construction paper
- Resealable bag
I put a squirt of each color paint on a plate and let Sam dip them in. This was messy and squishy and lots of fun. We danced the spiders through the paint singing “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and reciting “Little Miss Muffet” (I’ve been teaching him both lately so he loved that they were part of the activity).
Once we got a spider good and coated, we’d drop him in the resealable bag. Ps. Inside the resealable bag was a piece of construction paper for our spider print to go on. Not pictured is our washcloth that we kept wiping our hands off with.
After we finished paint coating and paint dancing our spiders, we zipped up the bag and got our shake on.
Then we got our smooshing on. Anything to feel those little spiders moving inside that bag transferring their paint to the paper.
I think this print turned out so cute and sweet. Sam is so proud of his spider painting, and this one is destined for the fridge. After Sam went down for his nap, I glued those three spiders down so we could remember how we did this. I just love it!
