Scoop and transfer activities are absolutely the bees knees for young toddlers. They are a perfect quick and easy activity, and my kids can’t get enough of them.

This simple rice scoop and transfer activity was so easy to put together and my daughter (24 months) is in heaven playing with it.

Materials:

• Rice (about 3 lbs worth) ours was dyed rainbow colored during this activity – learn how to dye your rice for added fun!
• Scoops
• Ice cube tray
• Plastic containers

The basic set up for this activity is so easy. In a large storage tub, set a plastic container of rice, an ice cube tray and some scoops.

I left this set up for my daughter and it’s like she was born ready for it. She knew exactly what she needed to do.

I know a set up like this looks simple, but it’s perfect for a toddler. They love the simple task of scooping rice and transferring items to an ice cube tray.

Try these tips to keep things tidy

It can be a little daunting doing messy sensory activities like this with toddlers. I get it!

The biggest tip I can give is to make sure you put the rice container and the ice cube tray in a large storage tub. “Double bagging” a sensory activity is key.

This might not seem like much – just moving rice around a storage container – but my toddler is learning so much here!
