Have some simple play time with Funnel Fun!
It doesn’t have to be the fanciest toddler activity to be the best. In fact, some of my favorite toddler activities are the simplest to put together. The latest quick toddler activity to win over the crowd at my house is Funnel Fun.
Looking for more simple toddler activities? Try my pouring station, scooping station, and rice bin.
Funnel Fun is a crazy easy set up.
Materials:
(this list contains affiliate links)
- Funnels (we used these ones)
- Jars
- Pour-able solid (we used rice)
- Storage container
I bought these new funnels from IKEA – I couldn’t resist them when I saw them. And neither could my toddlers. They found them in the shopping bag and shouted “Mom! We need rice and jars FAST!”.
My toddlers set up Funnel Fun – it’s that easy!
My two tots (3 years old and 18 months old) were serious: they needed jars and rice to go with the funnels they had found in my bag. I love that we’ve done so many toddler activities together that they can actually set them up on their own. They know what they’re doing.
Per their request, I grabbed a bunch of jars, two measuring cups for scooping, and a container of rice that I’ve had for well over a year now.
I set it all in a storage container to keep the mess somewhat contained. It doesn’t catch everything but it’s 1000 times better than it would be without it!
What skills are they learning in Funnel Fun?
- Life skill: pouring
- Life skill: scooping
- Capacity
- Problem solving – sometimes the rice would get stuck in the funnel and it was on them to work out the issue
This may look like just a fun activity but there is a lot of learning involved!
These two sat – scooping, pouring and mixing – for almost twenty minutes. Do you know what I got to do? Eat my breakfast in peace without sharing a single bite. My coffee was still warm. I had a moment to breathe. It was heavenly.
The take away from Funnel Fun? It doesn’t have to be something hugely involved to grab your toddler’s attention and hold it. No need to make anything super fancy – simple wins almost every time.
