Have a toddler who loves magnets? Check out this DIY Magnet Puzzle!
We love playing with magnets – they are such a quick and easy activity for toddlers. But what if we took that play up a notch? This DIY magnet puzzle activity is just perfect for toddlers!
I’m a sucker for puzzle activities, especially DIY puzzles. Some of my favorite DIY puzzles are this giant shape puzzle and this animal silhouette puzzle. But this DIY magnet puzzle is rapidly going up in my ranks!
Setting up a DIY Magnet Puzzle is super easy!
Materials:
(this list contains affiliate links)
- Magnets (we used this vehicles set)
- White butcher paper
- Black marker
I taped a long sheet of white butcher paper onto our refrigerator. I made sure it wasn’t too tall for my kids – height checking is key for making this activity.
Next I put the magnets onto the white paper and began tracing their outline to build our puzzle. I was worried this might be too tricky for my kids (3.5 years old and 24 months old) but this was perfect for them!
My kids loved this activity!
I set down the magnets in a bowl and let me kids start working away. They absolutely loved this activity!
I was stunned at how well they knew the outlines of their beloved magnets!
This was a perfect activity for keeping my kids busy while I cooked dinner – and a fun way to “spice up” magnets.
Once they finished playing with this set up – and trust me, they played with this for more than a week! – I let them color in the silhouettes, which they loved doing.
What can kids learn with this DIY puzzle?
Other than just having fun and playing, there’s so much kids are working on doing a puzzle like this.
- Spatial awareness – being able to rotate the pieces to fit in the right spot
- Problem solving / critical thinking
- Hand eye coordination to put the puzzle together
I’m so glad I made this simple DIY Magnet Puzzle for my toddlers. They loved it! What a perfect activity using magnets.
