Create a fun art print with Dino Paint.
I love my sweet toddler so much, but that boy has been a tough one to introduce art too. It just doesn’t hold his attention like I’d “hope”. It’s how he’s wired and that’s ok with me, but I still want to introduce art and creative fun to him whenever I can.
Why continue to try art? Because I want to keep exposing him to art and to creating and to hope that one day (someday!), he might find something he really enjoys.
We had a slight success with Dino Paint and I’m thrilled to bits!
People. My ship has come in with Dino Painting. I’m buying a lotto ticket. My sweet boy loved this enough to 1. Finish the entire painting (a first) 2. Call Daddy to talk to him about it 3. Even tell a few random strangers about painting with dinosaurs. They had no idea what he was saying or any context for it, but he was still thrilled to share.
Hallelujah! We might Dino Paint every week from now on.
My simple set up for Dino Painting.
Materials:
(this list contains affiliate links)
- dinosaurs
- butcher paper
- washable tempera paint
For our now beloved, revered and treasured activity, I rolled out a large piece of butcher paper, squirted out some paint and lined up some dinosaur friends. A very simple, sweet looking set up.
Next, I showed Sam how to get the feet into the paint and walk them down the paper. Obviously, roaring was involved…
He loved it. Loved it like I have never seen him love painting. He didn’t mind that he got paint on himself or get upset that the dinoaurs were dirty – this is huge and also a sign that pigs may be flying just outside the house.
He walked those guys, roaring and paint smooshing, up and down the paper. He made an absolutely adorable foot print art path. It was a masterpiece!
He even mixed the paint using a Brontosaurus and I loved it. Because he’s my kid, I thought it was the most brilliant puke color I’d ever seen.
Once the paper was full and Sam was ready to move on, I wiped him off just enough to carry him upstairs to the bath tub for a hose down. Apparently I had forgotten my own advice and he was still in his pajamas which were now covered in paint. Oh well. It is what it is. The dinosaurs obviously joined him in the tub for a Sam + Dino Clean Fest and everyone had a great, bubbly time.
We loved making art with our dinosaur toys and now I’m thinking about what else? Doll feet? Legos? So many possibilities….

This is something my three year old would absolutely love. We don’t get messy too often but this seems completely manageable. Thanks for the great idea!
