Need something fun to do? Let your child do a puzzle unwrap!
Yep, this is exactly what it sounds like: I put all my son’s toys into paper and let him do a puzzle unwrap.
No surprise: it was awesome and he loved it.

Wait. You just wrapped up your puzzle?
Why yes I did!
I actually borrowed this idea from two of my blogging friends – Happy Toddler Playtime and Happily Ever Mom – both have different variations on this activity and taught me the magic of wrapping up a puzzle.
They’ve done this with wrapping paper and foil – today, I wanted to use up some extra tissue paper we have and it was PERFECTION.
What’s the point of doing a puzzle unwrap activity?
Well, the point – as with all activities – is for hands-on learning fun.
But the bigger reasons:
- Fine motor skills
- Spatial awareness
- Cause and effect
- Hand eye coordination
- Concentration
Toddlers learn so much from simple activities – activities don’t need to be fancy to be fun and engaging for our kids.
Sometimes, it’s as easy as wrapping up puzzle pieces in tissue paper.

Want to know the secret best part of this activity?
My 7-year-old set this up for my 3-year-old. No joke! I prepped the materials, I laid things out for him, and I walked away.
He did this.
(That’s me doing the happy lady dance emoji)
And then my toddler had a ball unwrapping his “puzzle presents”
This activity seriously is a riot.
Wrap up those puzzle pieces and watch your toddler have a ball opening each little package.
Something about this activity is just so magical.
I’d file this under “must try” because really – it’s a sure winner.
