Welcome to our A Very Toddler Easter series that we are co-hosting with Kristina from Toddler Approved. Each day this week, we are sharing a new Easter activity idea for toddlers. Follow along with A Very Toddler Easter all our activity ideas!
I’m starting to wonder if I’ll be able to put away the plastic eggs after Easter is over. Because this activity was so much fun, I actually can’t see my kids letting go of these eggs.
After all, they literally lost their minds for this Easter Alphabet Activity
This will go down as one of the best alphabet activities, best Easter activities, best indoor activity we have ever done.
A little bit of magic in the set up
Materials

- Plastic Easter eggs
- Alphabet magnets
- Giant Sharpie marker
- Cookie sheet
I loved setting up this activity for my kids (27 months old and 3.5 years old) – and thank goodness it was a quick prep because they played it 5 times the first day we came up with it. I think when all was said and done, we probably spent 90 minutes playing this on repeat! Can you even imagine?

I grabbed our Easter eggs and our alphabet magnets and mashed them together speedy quick. It didn’t take long and the kids were abundantly patient because they knew the fun was coming.
Wait until you see my sneaky trick!
I wanted this to be an onion of an Easter Alphabet Activity – you know, a real Ogre. LAYERS!!
Layer one – find the hidden Easter eggs. I did a bang up job hiding these all around the house and called it “game day practice” for Easter Sunday.
Layer two – crack the eggs open to find a letter magnet, making sure to call out the name or ask for help if you aren’t sure.
And now for the all important last layer…
Layer three – match that magnet to the Sharpie letters on a cookie sheet. Wait what?! Why are there letter written in SHARPIE on my cookie sheet?!
I promise I didn’t ruin my cookie sheet!
Are you ready for the best secret around?
Permanent markets aren’t always permanent (shhhh, don’t tell them, it’ll hurt their feelings….).
I grabbed a giant Sharpie marker and wrote the alphabet on my cookie sheet so my kids could match the magnetic letters to the (also magnetic) cookie sheet. Remember, I wanted this to be a layer filled Ogre activity so we needed a final resting place for the letters.
But how did I “fix” my cookie sheet?
HAND SANITIZER! The alcohol in hand sanitizer erases Sharpie marker. Is your jaw on the floor?
Obviously, this won’t work on carpet or furniture, but it works on slick surfaces like cookie sheets (or classroom desks which is where I learned this trick).
You want to use something “scrubby” to get the marker off – like the green rough side of a sponge.

Definitely test this out on the back of your cookie sheet just to be safe, but I think you’ll be as mesmerized as my kids were. Mom was magical erasing this marker! Oh and definitely run the cookie sheet through the dishwasher after scrubbing it to get the hand sanitizer smell off.
My kids loved this activity!
This Easter alphabet activity has it all. The thrill of finding a hidden egg! The wonder of which letter will be inside! The pride of matching that letter on the cookie sheet!
It’s no shock that my kids asked to play this activity 5 times one day. They ate it up. They loved it. They won’t stop asking to play it.
I don’t see these Easter eggs getting boxed up any time soon…
Think you’ll try this Easter Alphabet Activity at your house?
